    Wildest Antarctic

Antarctica was once in the centre of ancient southern supercontinent, Gondwana. Traces of these connections remain throughout the southern hemisphere today in plants, and marine species with similarities that have long-ago changed and adapted to the environment around them. While King penguins have large brown fluffy chicks that undergo an awkward fledgling stage in sub-Antartic islands, New Zealand fur seals climb coastline rock walls to birth and raise large-eyed pups. Strange mollusks in South Australian waters, like the striped pyjama squid, swim alongside Australian sea lions. Andean Condors have learned to tame the notorious winds of Cape Horn's Roaring Forties, and orcas have honed an extraordinary hunting technique rushing ice floes to dislodge seals, clinging on for the fight of their lives.
